Wildflower Training Weekend:

Silicon Valley Triathlon Club
Wildflower Training Weekend
April 5-6, 2008 ( )
Lake San Antonio Campground

Wildflower swim startWhether you are entered in this year's Wildflower Triathlon or not, spending two days on the world famous training courses will prove to be invaluable to your performance. Wildflower is one of the most challenging triathlons around. Why do you ask? Because of "Beach Hill", "Nasty Grade", "Heart Rate Hill", backcountry trail run all while enduring the persistent heat (or soaking rain). The Wildflower training camp weekend will be an opportunity to see the course layout, transition area and practice with veteran club members. Which in return prepares you physically and mentally for race weekend (especially the camping portion!).

The dates for the training camp weekend are April 5th - 6th, while race weekend is May 3rd - May 4th. If you are interested in extending either weekend, some members will be arriving before Saturday. This fun and safe environment will consist of support on the water, road and trails. This is a great opportunity and should not be missed.

Note: Check this web page often since some information will be updated as it becomes available.

    Training Camp Weekend Highlights:
  • All abilities welcome
  • Two days, one night
  • Group lead open-water swim, bike, run workouts on the courses

If you are interested in being part of the Wildflower Training Weekend Committee or volunteering, please contact the Melissa Monahan at monahan_melissa@yahoo.com.

How Do I Sign-Up:

The cost of the training weekend is broken down to the following:

  • Campground charges: $23 per vehicle entering the park per night. This payment is made at the park entrance as you enter.
  • Saturday night (April 5th) BBQ: $10 per person. This will be collected by the Wildflower Committee using PayPal as described in the evite.
  • Go to the SVTC Wildflower Training Weekend Evite and respond to it, indicating meal preference, and if you are willing to help out, (by bringing grills or other camping items) and pay via Paypal.

  • Our Campsite:

With the overriding philosophy that this is a group event, we want to try to group everybody in as close an area as possible at Lake San Antonio. We will set up in the Lynch loop campground. Each campsite can accommodate about 8 people but as indicated each campsite has just one reserved parking spot. If the parking spots in this area fill up, folks should be able to park in the surrounding area in Lynch.

Note that there will be other tri clubs out there the same weekend.

Getting from the Campground to the Activity Start area:
Most activities will start from the official race transition area (Labeled as 'Food/Gas/Marina' on the map above); we will know for sure how close we are to the transition area once we get there. As we will be starting each workout activity promptly, please plan accordingly.

    Getting There/Carpooling:

Lake San Antonio is located about 160 miles or 3 hours away from the South Bay.

Interactive maps: (using 2610 San Antonio Rd., Bradley, CA 93426-9438)

Please be aware of the speed limits (for example, 55 mph vs. 65 mph) on the way to Lake San Antonio.

If you need a ride or are willing to give rides, please post messages on the yahoo SVTC discussion group email accordingly.

    Volunteering: We need your help:

Activities such as this require the support of our members in the form of volunteering. Without them, it would not be possible to put these events on. To volunteer, please indicate the appropriate responses to the questions on the SVTC Wildflower Training Weekend Evite or send email to monahan_melissa@yahoo.com.

There are various areas that we will need help in, including:

    • Bringing supplies/equipment to/from Lake San Antonio
    • Shopping for supplies
    • Coordinate cooking/serving/eating utensils
    • BBQ: cooking/cleaning
    • Leads for the bike/run/swim workouts
