The SVTC is pleased to welcome Brad Kearns. Brad will discuss his new book called, Breakthrough Triathlon Training - balance your busy life,
avoid burnout and experience peak performance. Those of you familiar with Brad's message (he visited the club in 2004) know that he promotes
a refreshing healthy, balanced approach to the sport. Brad will discuss the power of a pure motivation and avoiding the obsessive/compulsive
approach that is so common among triathletes as well as cover practical training topics like developing a heart rate-based annual
periodization plan, how to peak for big races, avoid overtraining and maximize the time that you have to devote to triathlon. Brad will also
come armed with free gifts and raffle prizes.

James "Chad" Crittenden was born on a military base in Oceanside, California. Growing up he discovered a love of sports and the outdoors, particularly soccer and fishing. About one and a half years ago, Crittenden went to the doctor to have a lump on the bottom of his foot removed and discovered it was a cancerous tumor and amputation was necessary, just below the knee. His recovery was miraculously quick, and he completed a triathlon nine months after the surgery. After many prostheses and much development, he feels that he has almost reached his post-surgery potential. James also competed in Survivor Vanuatu.

Bike fit and getting your bike in race-ready condition
Christopher Kautz
Riding a bicycle efficiently is the key to successful triathlon cycling. Unfortunately, most athletes know very little about how to sit on their bicycles to maximize their comfort and power production, while maintaining a low aerodynamic profile. This is further complicated by the complex array of equipment available, often leaving athletes unsure of which equipment will work best for them. This presentation will address the fundamental aspects of proper cycling posture, and how to set up a bicycle to allow athletes to maximize their cycling performance.
Christopher Kautz is co-owner of PK Racing Technologies, a company specializing in Cycling Performance Solutions. He is also a regular columnist for Triathlete Magazine and has worked with such athletes as Ironman Hawaii winners Peter Reid and Lori Bowden, among others.
Brad Kern, former national champion, and 3rd world-ranked professional triathlete, will be presenting "Results Happen When Motivation is Pure". This presentation focuses on a healthy, balanced approach to triathlon as an alternative to the obsessive mentality typical in triathlon training. Brad will share experiences in his professional career and hopes to inspire SVTCers to achieve peak performance naturally. Brad has been writing, speaking and coaching in the multi-sport world for the past 17 years.
Come hear how our athletes got into to triathlon (from beginners to the elite), a review of the different distance races (what was great about training for these races and what hurt), and handy training tips & gear review that only the experienced can share.
It's that time of year to start building your base! But what does that mean? How much should you be riding? How much should you be running? What role does weight training have? Come hear SVTC Head Track Coach Lisa Engles answer these questions and more on what you can do to get your pie-body into a tri-body for spring training!
Learn more about one of the best & fastest growing, cross-training workouts for triathletes: Yoga. We will be joined by Robin Jamplis, who led the very popular Hot Yoga clinic last winter for SVTC members. Robin will explain how and why Hot Yoga benefits athletes. These benefits include greater coordination, greater flexibility, and muscle strengthening. Combined, benefits help the triathlete to reduce risk of injury and improve performance.
Mark Evans from Evans Coaching will be raffling off the following:
· Swimming flume technique, stroke analysis session (includes video above and below water)
· Cycle evaluation and assessment (includes evaluation of position on bike for road or triathlon racing and digital photos or video of positioning modifications)
· Run analysis (includes video taping and biomechanic analysis)
· Core and Flexibility Training (includes strengthening, functional stabilization and flexibility training)
