  • USAC Certified Cycling Coach - Level 2
  • ACE Certified Personal Trainer
  • Crossfit Level 1 Trainer
  • TRX / Outdoor Group Fitness Trainer

Brandon has been competing in cycling and triathlon since late 80's and early 90's and has in the recent years started doing adventure races as well. His coaching goals includes; safe training, importance of recovery, goal based training, measured success, and race planning and race day strategy.

"If you were raised by wolves would that make you a wolf? Maybe not, but if you grew up with two-time Kona Ironman parents, some of that training focus might rub off. At least that's what I'm hoping. Mom casts a big shadow!

From Colorado, to Mexico, to Hawaii, and many races along the west coast, my siblings and I grew up in a racing family traveling on the weekends seeing a lot of fit people and the sport of triathlon in its infancy. It's something that has shaped my outlook on life and sport.

Starting with my first 10k at age 9 to the more recent multi-day expedition adventure races, fitness and competition are deeply ingrained into my everyday life.

It's important to me to translate the value of safe training – many people look at training triathlons as an all-out effort everyday, every week. Workouts need to cover a wide range of efforts: each ride has a purpose, an underlying goal to take you to your next race better than you were before and at your top level of performance.

Come out to the New to the Sport program, get fit, fast and focused. See you out there!"

Member led workout:               Thursday night Hill Ride

Garry Chinn has been a SVTC club member since 2006 and a middle distance (5K,10K)
recreational runner for many years before life got in the way. After a long break from running Garry is back and has started to do triathlons.

”My goal for leading rides is to encourage participation by making them safe and fun. Not everyone can be fast, but everyone can be fit. Regular aerobic training can reduce your risk for developing many chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease; type 2 diabetes, inflammatory diseases, cancer, and Alzheimer's. If you train in groups and train to race, you are dramatically more likely to train regularly and be fit.”

Athletic background:

  • Triathlete since 1986
  • 3rd year as OW Swim Lead for SVTC
  • Love the experience of getting someone new to the sport comfortable and competent with OW Swimming
  • Completed Triathlons from Sprint to Ironman distance

  • Typical Age Grouper.  Work, Swim, Bike, Run, Eat, Sleep - start over again!

Randy has been in charge of Open Water swim for SVTC since 2007 and he has been much appreciated for getting those new to swimming and especially new to open water swims to face the challenge of getting in the water and enjoy swimming in the nature.

“I’ve enjoyed privilege of being able to lead the SVTC OW Swims and meet a lot of great people.  Along the way I’ve have the opportunity to work with a number of folks new to open water swimming and share with them my knowledge of open water swim tactics and race day skills.

I’ve trained and raced in virtually every type of water body imaginable from lakes, scummy ponds, lagoons, oily harbors, swamps with alligators (Louisiana), rivers, moss infested springs (Texas), to the ocean.  So hopefully I’ve gathered enough experience to share with you to enhance your race experience.  Look forward to seeing out in the water!”
