What is this?
Speaker: Lisa Sheeper, Registered Dietitian. Topic: Exploring a Whole Food, Plant Based Diet and How to Begin. Description: The whole food, plant based lifestyle is becoming very popular these days and while many people are interested in trying it out for themselves, they don’t know where to begin. I have been following this lifestyle for many years, and as the wife of a multi-sport athlete, the mother of three active kids and an athlete myself, I have had to figure out how to prepare nutritious, delicious, plentiful and quick meals. And as a classically educated dietitian, I am well versed in the science of macro nutrients, the body’s needs and the challenges of deficiencies or overindulgences. But in the past decade, my relationship with food has undergone a transformation. Although I have always known the importance of food, not until now have I been able to truly witness how food is medicine for our bodies. Our body’s crave, need and thrive on basic, simple and natural food straight from the earth. I have played a role in my family's quest for optimum health through food, and now I am interested in sharing my story and helping others join the whole food, plant based movement.
Bio: I am a wife, a mother of three, a Registered Dietitian and a swimmer. I have been following a version of the whole food, plant based lifestyle for most of my life and have made this a priority for my whole family. As a dietitian, I have always worked in the areas of wellness and sports nutrition, which I find very interesting. The knowledge I have gained in science is very grounding and offers me a strong foundation for ingredient decisions I make in recipes and how I construct meals and long term food plans for individuals including family, friends and clients. My goal is for everyone to experience the joy of good tasting wholesome food.
